Adalbereto Garelli built his protoype split-twin 2 stroke bike in 1914. He worked for Biaanchi and Stucchi until after WW1 he set out on his own near Milan. He continued making this bike until 1936 when production fell off. However following WW2 the need for cheap, economical bikes was high so Garelli focus on small displacement 2 stroke mopeds. They sold well and the company grew. By the 80s they were producing a 125cc road racer which won the World Championship from 1982-1987. They continue to exist as part of the Fantic motorcycle group.
