The MZ company rose from the ashes of the DKW company after WW2. The factory ended up on the Communist side of the split of Germany and so the factory didn’t get going again until 1957 under the name IFA. By 1959 the were MZ (Motorraderwerke Zschopau) The MZs had success in both the ISDT and road racing. Even Hailwood rode an MZ. They continued to produce bikes well into the 90s, when the fall of the Berlin Wall brought about a takeover by a state owned company and they went bankrupt in 1991.
